چکیده

By considering that the distribution of measured light along any galactocentric radius of an elliptical galaxy can be well represented by a R Sérsic law, we propose in this paper a “discrete ordenate” method, which, for any value of n, allows an explicit expression for the luminous density, ρ(r), to be found that can be numerically evaluated to any required precision. Once we have this semi-analytical expression for the spatial density, ρ(r), the mass distribution, M(r), the potential, φ(r), and the velocity dispersions, σ s(r), in the space and in the observational plane, σ 2 p(R), can be computed in a straightforward manner.

Density–potential pairs for spherical stellar systems with Sérsic light–profiles and (optional) power–law cores

Popular models for describing the luminosity–density profiles of dynamically hot stellar systems (e.g., Jaffe, Hernquist, Dehnen) were constructed with the desire to match the deprojected form of an R light–profile. Real galaxies, however, are now known to have a range of different light–profile shapes that scale with mass. Consequently, although highly useful, the above models have implicit li...

Effect of Exponentially-Varying Properties on Displacements and Stresses in Pressurized Functionally Graded Thick Spherical Shells with Using Iterative Technique

A semi-analytical iterative method as one of the newest analytical methods is used for the elastic analysis of thick-walled spherical pressure vessels made of functionally graded materials subjected to internal pressure. This method is accurate, fast and has a reasonable order of convergence. It is assumed that material properties except Poisson’s ratio are graded through the thickness directio...

A Semi-analytical Approach to Elastic-plastic Stress Analysis of FGM Pressure Vessels

An analytical method for predicting elastic–plastic stress distribution in a cylindrical pressure vessel has been presented. The vessel material was a ceramic/metal functionally graded material, i.e. a particle–reinforcement composite. It was assumed that the material’s plastic deformation follows an isotropic strain-hardening rule based on the von-Mises yield criterion, and that the vessel was...

Spreading of Plastic Zones in Functionally Graded Spherical Tanks Subjected to Internal Pressure and Temperature Gradient Combinations

Thermo-Elasto-Plastic analyses of thick-walled spherical tanks made of functionally graded materials are investigated analytically. These tanks are subjected to positive or negative temperature gradient and internal pressure loadings separately or simultaneously. The power law modeling has been used for through-the-thickness variation of mechanical properties. von Mises yield criterion and Elas...

Delamination of Two-Dimensional Functionally Graded Multilayered Non-Linear Elastic Beam - an Analytical Approach

Delamination fracture of a two-dimensional functionally graded multilayered four-point bending beam that exhibits non-linear behaviour of the material is analyzed. The fracture is studied analytically in terms of the strain energy release rate. The beam under consideration has an arbitrary number of layers. Each layer has individual thickness and material properties. A delamination crack is loc...
